Religious Zionism in Israel Today: Towards the Center

This chapter discusses the attempt by the religious Zionist public to exercise moral and political influence and leadership in regard to the general Israel public and society. It describes this attempt through their political prominence – through both the Jewish Home and Likud Parties and their prominence in the IDF and the electronic media. It also discusses  the recent  trend toward less religiosity among part of the religious Zionist public and how the religious Zionist leadership hopes that this trend will ease their entrance into national leadership positions and their acceptance by the broader Israeli public. Thus we might be witnessing a truly dialectical process: Decreased religiosity within the religious Zionist community will lead to an increased religionization of the general Israeli public sphere.
