The State of Israel, on its 78th birthday, continues to fight for its very existence. The struggle is being waged in three arenas at once: militarily, against our enemies; domestically, among ourselves; and internationally, amid a bombardment of words and images….

Time and again, it becomes clear that Israel’s existence is not something we can take for granted. The state is a precious trust that we must defend with resolve and cultivate responsibly. How blessed we are to be “a free people in our own land.”

as we recline under a barrage of missiles, we will not just remember the struggle for freedom – we will be living it. This is another chapter in the Jewish people’s journey to freedom, and we remain certain: “And it is this that has sustained our ancestors – and sustains us still.”

That is a cultural, religious, and national mistake. Israel must honor religious pluralism and refrain from inflaming the sensitivities of our dear brothers and sisters.

Antisemitism is the only issue that unites extremists from the populist right and the progressive left. The ancient hatred of Jews – which we hoped had vanished after the Holocaust – has reawakened with full force around the world….
At Bondi Beach, 15 people were murdered solely because they were Jewish. But today, unlike during the Holocaust, Jews have a nation-state, and it must marshal its full strength to combat antisemitism. JPPI is currently working on a national plan to fight antisemitism, which will be submitted to the Israeli government in the coming year. We send a warm and loving embrace to our Jewish brothers and sisters in Australia. May they find comfort.

This week, JPPI launched a broad public campaign in support of a “Thin Constitution,” aiming to turn it into a standard accepted by all parties ahead of the upcoming elections.
The need for a Thin Constitution is clearer than ever: had it been in force, the controversy surrounding Netanyahu’s trial and the pardon he is seeking would have been rendered unnecessary. Likewise, we would have been spared the harsh words exchanged yesterday between the Minister of Justice and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. A Thin Constitution would provide stability for Israeli democracy in an era of extreme polarization….

In response to developments on the ground, JPPI is enhancing its activity in the Center for Jewish Resilience. It will be led by a new team member, Major General Amir Eshel, a former Commander of the Air Force and Director General of the Defense Ministry.

The center will delve into a deeper understanding of the indispensable triangular relationship – Washington-Jerusalem-American Jewry – aiming to stabilize this critical strategic anchor. We will also take an unflinching look at European Jewry and relations with the European Union. This effort will also be led by a new JPPI Senior Fellow, Prof. Sharon Pardo, the Chair of European Studies at Ben-Gurion University. As Israel enters an election year, JPPI will soon launch a comprehensive marketing campaign for our flagship “Thin Constitution” project. Our hands are full, and we embrace the challenges.
