{"id":745,"date":"2015-07-02T14:50:37","date_gmt":"2015-07-02T11:50:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dicemarketing.co.il\/jppi\/?post_type=article&#038;p=745"},"modified":"2024-02-27T14:36:26","modified_gmt":"2024-02-27T12:36:26","slug":"english-jewish-solidarity-in-an-age-of-polarization","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jppi.org.il\/en\/english-jewish-solidarity-in-an-age-of-polarization\/","title":{"rendered":"Jewish Solidarity In an Age of Polarization"},"content":{"rendered":"<strong>Pluralism and Jewish Solidarity in Polarizing Times<\/strong><br \/>\nA number of internal polarization processes have surfaced in Israel and the Diaspora<br \/>\nover the past year.<\/p>\n<p>They are influenced in different ways by parallel political schisms<br \/>\ntaking place in American and Israeli society. In certain areas Israeli and Diaspora Jews<br \/>\nmay be heading in different directions, and expectations should be re-examined. The<br \/>\npolitical system in Israel and the Jewish communal system in the Diaspora are supposed<br \/>\nto facilitate frameworks that can contain a variety of opinions. Traditionally, this has been<br \/>\naccomplished through mutual respect and a sense of unity, and through a commitment<br \/>\nto certain \u201crules of the game\u201d that allow us to be, at once, \u201cdifferent\u201d and \u201cunified.\u201d<br \/>\nCoexistence through the careful management of the complexities of human reality<br \/>\n&#8212; which doesn\u2019t have and doesn\u2019t require full consensus on every issue &#8212; offers<br \/>\nexpression to the pluralistic spirit of a healthy society.<\/p>\n<p>Are these current polarizing processes so extreme that they threaten our<br \/>\n\u201ctogetherness\u201d? Do they create pressures too weighty for our sense of \u201cmutual<br \/>\nresponsibility\u201d?
