Fundamentalism Project

This project examines the Israeli Jewish and Muslim populations in the light of internationally recognized definitions and indices of religious fundamentalism.

To do this, JPPI Senior Researcher, Dr. Shlomo Fischer has become part of team investigating fundamentalism in the Middle East, sponsored by the US National Science Foundation and headed by Prof. Mansoor Moaddel of the University of Maryland. This research project conducted a detailed survey of the Israeli population  with a sample size of 2,142  randomly selected individuals.  The project examines the extent of fundamentalist attitudes among various Israeli population groups (Jews. Muslims, Religious Zionists, Haredim) and the extent to which they correlate, positively or negatively, with liberal values, rule of law, political violence and other issues.
